Welcome to our Fire Service Home Page

MAPS Group has been working with Fire Service clients for more than twelve years.  During this time we have helped with the provision of NVQs and designed and delivered a wide variety of training events for whole time, retained and non-uniformed staff. 

One Brigade Training Department decided to set up their own NVQ Assessment Centre and we were able to work in partnership with their Training Manager to achieve this.  The whole project was successfully completed within less than a month.


Current Projects

This year MAPS Group has some interesting projects in hand:

  • Getting the best out of Personal Development Reviews

  • Running a training programme for a training department, linked to L&D level 4 NVQ

  • Training Junior Officers to assess the Fire Fighter NVQs

  • Equal Opportunity Selection Interviewing

  • Supporting Retained personnel to achieve their Trainer/Assessor awards

  • Maintaining competence and CPD of Assessors

  • Contact Centre NVQs for Control Room personnel

  • Translating NOS into specific, measurable evidence requirements

  • Accreditation of Prior Learning/Experience providing evidence for NVQs

  • Designing and implementing QA systems in relation to competent pay

  • External Verification of competent pay assessment processes

Commitment or Compliance?

For some time now the public sector has been under close scrutiny and in the main this has been 'process' and 'outcome' driven.  Whilst managers have had no choice but to comply with a wide variety of new rules, regulations and audit trails this has sometimes left the people on the ground feeling 'disconnected'.

So maybe now's the time to get back to basics and concentrate on some serious team building.

We are able to offer an away day or residential couple of days, for teams of up to fifteen people.  The events will concentrate on:

  • some straight talking - identifying individual motivation blockages

  • assessing the current operating environment - what skills and talents will the team need in order to survive

  • prioritising team development - planning the way forward
